Tiny teeth marks on the case
of Mother's chewed up watch
Gave the clue as to who
could have perpertrated such an act.
Kevin had teeth that could chew stones
and spit out sand
So he was hauled before the famlily court
where Mother donned her cloak of justice.
She had black eyes that had traversed Time
from her ancient gypsy clan;
Eyes that could pierce the heart
and lay bare the soul of their target.
Lies were no defence to Mother's eyes,
but Kevin gave it his best shot.
His eyes, white with terror of the inevitable,
lent a pleading elequonce to his denials.
The case dragged on, black eyes of white
battling with white eyes of black.
Then Mother said, "Tell the truth and I won't hit you."
He did. And she did.
I thought, as I watched him cry
that no one had asked him - Why?
Wrote that about my brother Kevin a long time ago.
He's up to something again that it made me remember the poem.
